I m directed to acknowledge the receipt of your
letter No. 3805 W-1 of the 2nd. September relative to the deten-
-tion in Hongkong of the Revd. R. H. Freche, a German subject.
2. Unfortunately Er. Freche on arrival in this Colony
was detained by the Military Authorities, who did not inform the
Colonial Government of the circumstances of the case. Immediately
upon receipt of your lettor steps were taken to procure his
release and he left for the United States of America on the 6th.
October.
1 am to express great regret that i wis case the
wishes of the Indian Government were disregarded. Arrangements
have now been made by which a similar occurrence will be obviated.
